Our halls of residence applications for the 2024/25 academic year will open at 12pm (noon) BST, Thursday 11 April 2024.
Note: To be eligible to apply for housing, you must have chosen University of Westminster as your first choice University, and hold either a Conditional Firm (CF) or Unconditional Firm (UF) offer for a full-time course.
How to apply
To apply for halls, you need to log in to the Housing Portal. If you have not already done so, you must first set up your password to make sure that you have full access to our Housing Portal.
When you have set up your password, you can apply for a place in halls and monitor the progress of your application.
In order to log in to the portal your email address needs to be entered in the “[email protected]” format. Please note, this format is not your University email address.
If you’re a study abroad or exchange student, you can apply for a semester-only tenancy contract. For more details, please visit the University Housing page in our Study abroad section of the website.
Who can apply
You can apply for a place in our halls of residence if you are or will be studying as a full-time student.
Halls are not available to part-time students, but we can offer advice on finding private accommodation.
Which halls you can apply for
We have four halls of residence which are open to groups of students, with different standard tenancy lengths for the 2023/24 academic year.
- Harrow Hall: New and continuing undergraduates (38 week tenancy) and postgraduates on courses at Harrow (38 week tenancy with the option to extend throughout the summer for academic reasons)
- Marylebone Hall: Study Abroad and Exchange students, continuing undergraduates (38 week tenancy) and postgraduates (38 week tenancy) studying on our central London campuses
- Alexander Fleming Hall: Study Abroad and Exchange students, new and continuing undergraduates (38 week tenancy) and postgraduates (38 week tenancy with the option to extend throughout the summer for academic reasons)
- Olympic Way (Unite Students): New and continuing undergraduates and postgraduates on courses at Central London Campuses (42 week tenancy)
Scholarships
If your attendance is dependent upon your receiving a full University of Westminster scholarship please do not apply for halls.
If you are awarded a full scholarship you will automatically be allocated a room and advised when to access the housing portal to accept your room offer.

How and when you will hear back
You will hear back from us by email, so will need to check your inbox (including any spam folders) on a regular basis.
During the Clearing period, you should know the outcome of your hall application within 7 to 14 days your application.
What happens next?
We aim to let you know the outcome of your halls application within 14-21 days, although some applications may take longer. Please note that you could receive your response anytime from the day you completed your application, so check your emails regularly, even the spam folders.
If you have been offered a place at Harrow Hall, Marylebone Hall or Alexander Fleming Hall, you will be contacted by the University. In order to accept the offer you will need to log back into the housing portal, make your deposit payment to secure your booking and accept the tenancy agreement online.
Regardless of whether you are contacted by the University or our partner hall it is very important to respond by the deadline that you are given. If you miss the deadline your room offer will no longer be valid. The deadlines vary but will be clearly explained in your offer.
When you accept your room offer, you are asked to pay a damage deposit of £250.00 within the deadline given on your room offer. The damage deposit is paid as an indemnity against damage or other disbursements and is refunded at the end of your contract, minus any outstanding rent or administrative charges, or if there is any loss or damage in relation to your accommodation. You can view all your accommodation charges on My Student Record (SRS).
Deposit will only be refunded to the original method of payment at the time of booking your accommodation in compliance with UK money laundering legislation in force within 6 weeks of the end of the contracted period. You will be notified by the Finance refund team of your intended refund, please make sure you check the Credit/Debit card statement. For deposits made by third party, please check with the account holder.
If you do not receive a room offer by the date set out in our schedule, you will instead receive an email informing you of this. This will inform you that unfortunately you have been unsuccessful in your application and will explain what other options you can explore such as a list of private rented accommodation upon request. Once you have received this email, we will only contact you if a room becomes available. We will not be able to give you any timescales at that point, although we are of course happy to help if you have any questions.
Students usually have a week to take up their place from the contract start date after which the room will be given to another student. The exception is if we have already received full rent payment, in which case we will hold the room until you tell us otherwise. In this situation, you will be charged for the period we held the room and until a replacement has been found. The refund will then take place accordingly.

If your application is not successful
First of all, don’t panic if your application has not been successful – The University of Westminster Student Accommodation team will be very happy to advise you on your housing options and invite you to our housing workshops.
