The first thing you will need to do is formally accept your room offer – and you will need to do so by the deadline you are given. If you miss the deadline, your room will be given to another student.

If you have been offered a place at Alexander Fleming Hall, Harrow Hall or Marylebone Hall, we will send you an email, advising you how to accept your offer.

Paying your deposit

You will be instructed to pay your refundable deposit of £250, this acts as a damage deposit* on your room.

Your deposit will be repaid to you 6-8 weeks after the end of the contract, minus any necessary deductions. The refund will be made in the same way that the payment was received.

* Deductions will be made from your deposit if you have any outstanding rent or administrative charges, or if there is any loss or damage in relation to your accommodation.

Paying your rent

If you have paid your deposit, you can now make a rent payment.

If your contract is at Alexander Fleming Hall, Harrow Hall or Marylebone Hall, your rent is payable in instalments and is due each term in advance. You can refer to your tenancy agreement available under Online Tenancy Agreement on the Housing Portal for the payment amounts.

Rent payment dates for University of Westminster halls 2023/24

  • 16 September 2023
  • 6 January 2024
  • 6 April 2024

If you have any concerns about your tenancy or rent payment schedule, you may also contact the University of Westminster Student Accommodation team for advice and support at [email protected].

Arriving at halls

You will need to arrive at your hall within one week after the start date of your tenancy contract.

If you do not arrive within this time frame, the room will be allocated to another student, unless you have already paid your rent in full, in which case we will hold the room until you tell us otherwise.

If you change your mind

If you decide not to take up your place in University of Westminster Halls, it’s vital that you notify the Student Accommodation team as soon as possible.

You have the right to cancel the contract within a 7-day period from the date of signing the tenancy agreement. Cancellations must be given in writing and received within 7 days. Please note that if you move into a room, the right to cancel ceases to apply even if it is within the 7-day cancellation period.

If you fail to notify Student Accommodation within 7 days of accepting your room offer you will be liable to pay the rent in accordance with your tenancy agreement until a University-designated replacement tenant is found.

Leaving your hall before your contract end date

The halls tenancy contract is legally binding. When you e-sign the contract on your housing portal, you accept the rent liability for the duration of its term. This means that if you leave your hall of residence early, you will still be liable to pay the rent for the remaining period given in the contract, or until we have found a replacement tenant.

If you decide to leave your hall early, you will need to complete the Leaving Halls of Residence form (see below) as soon as possible and submit it to your hall reception.

Please note that in most cases you will be held liable for rent due for the duration of the tenancy agreement.
