Marketing Communications BA

If you are planning on studying at Westminster, my advice is to put yourself out there and join any club or society.

Why did you choose the University of Westminster?

I have always aspired to study overseas, and I was aware that the University of Westminster possessed a vast global outlook, which made it an ideal choice for me. I was certain I wanted to study Marketing or a course in the Communications field, and when I saw Westminster's excellent reputation for Communications, my course was the perfect blend between the business perspective of Marketing along with Communications related practices.

How has your experience been studying in London?

Being a student in London has been an exciting experience for numerous reasons, with one of the main factors being the location of my campus in the heart of the city. The advantage of having my classes in central London means that as soon as I leave classes, I find myself in the vibrant neighbourhood of Marylebone, which offers numerous attractions and is renowned as a cultural centre. London has a very dynamic atmosphere and provides countless opportunities for exploration and entertainment.

What have you particularly enjoyed about your course?

When looking at the Marketing Communications course structure, it covered exactly every topic I was looking for when thinking about my future career. Studying Marketing Communications on the Westminster Business School campus has a unique approach, meaning I get an overall perspective of essential Marketing fundamentals and principles, but also apply Communications practices, such as creating Advertising videos and drafting press releases for newspapers in my Public Relations module.

I believe this is a differentiated course in the Business School which gets to apply both concepts. So far, what I have particularly enjoyed about this course was our advertising project, which included making four video advertisements for a mental health charity. My group and I had loads of fun making these and looked at it as way more than just a university project.

How have you found academic support as part of your studies?

The academic support for my studies is always at my disposal and helps me with any doubts about coursework or presentations. My personal tutor is always in contact with me and is always creating drop-in sessions for us to clear up any doubts we had. In addition, lecturers were very supportive of our learning, and Unvan, the Marketing Communications Course Leader, brought guest speakers who work in this industry such as professionals at Apple and Big Black Door.

Are there any stand-out facilities associated with your course?

As part of the Marketing Communications course, we have access to Adobe Premiere Rush and had a specialised class on video editing, which was very useful not only for our Advertising module but for future projects. Studying at the Westminster Business School, we have access to the Financial Times, which inspires us to be intellectually stimulated and keep up to date with the world of business from a renowned subscription-based newspaper. In addition, we also have access to Microsoft Office, which is very useful for all our coursework and prepares us for the work industry too.

Tell us about any activities that you have undertaken outside of your course

Being captain and part of the Men's Volleyball 1st team for two years has been an exhilarating experience, where we have been promoted both seasons and will now move on to Division 1. Being part of this competitive volleyball club means we play against other universities in the South East and compete in National Competitions such as the England Student Cup. Being a member of this sports club has given me a profound sense of belonging in London, and I have made valuable friendships through my time so far with the team. It's great to be surrounded by people who share the same passion for this sport, and we all approach our membership with the utmost dedication! We all treat each other like family, and through every win or lose, we continue to grow even more.

As an athlete, I also got the amazing opportunity to be part of the Elite Athlete Program, where selected athletes from different sports are given the opportunity to grow even more in their athletic careers, through personalised gym routines, soft-tissue therapists appointments, and many interactive sessions touching upon nutrition, psychology, and endurance!

What would your advice be to someone considering studying at Westminster?

This will make you feel more at home during your experience at Westminster, and help you make new friends with similar interests to you! Also, take advantage of the many academic opportunities Westminster provides that will help you become more employable when graduating, such as taking a semester exchange or applying for undergraduate placement internships.
