Since the early 2000s, Liz Duff and Lisa Webley have been undertaking research on gender and the legal profession and then, later, all strands of diversity in the legal profession. They have been commissioned to undertake studies by the Law Society of England and Wales, The Legal Services Board and by City law firms to examine the continued barriers to entry and progression within the legal professions.

Their work has been featured in international collections and requested by professional and statutory bodies in Australia, Canada, and the United States, among others. Other Centre members, such as Marc Mason, are examining diversity too, including within the Bar of England and Wales.

Centre members contribute to a range of professional practice initiatives such as the Apollo Project, to raise awareness of successful diversity initiatives that have led to positive change.
